When you think of nutrition a lot of times people think diet and losing weight. In fact it can mean several different things for different kinds of people. Whether you are obese, underweight, or an athlete. It is defined as "The need to meet certain requirements in order to stay healthy".
Eating a well balanced whole food approach is the way we all should be eating, no matter your age, gender or race.
When people see me eating something healthy or saying "no" to something I know my body doesn't need, they ask me "why are you on a diet?" You don't need to be on a diet! This sends me into a frenzy since I feel like most people just eat for pleasure and not for fuel. There are times to celebrate food and eat what your body is craving but for most days out of the week we should consciously and consistantly decide what our bodies need to run sufficiently. When I say this I mean not fatigued, run down and the feeling that something is not right. This is all related to what foods you consume.
When my clients come into my studio and they are struggling, I know they have not been eating what they need to complete our session. Most people don't realize that what you put into your body is what your body is going to give you in return.
The body is like a Mercedes Benz. It will run smooth with good performance as long as you get the maintenance required and the premium gasoline to keep it from becoming sluggish.
If you eat whole foods and the right calories for your body it will do the same for you. Run smooth with lots of energy to make it through your day.
You should focus on whole foods that are unprocessed and as fresh as possible. Although it's difficult to have a diet that is 100 percent whole foods, shoot for this as a goal when you prepare your meals. A whole foods diet will be much richer in nutrients and enzymes than packaged, processed foods are.
Examples of whole foods include whole grain breads and cereals; fruit; vegetables; fresh fish; poultry; meats; nuts and seeds. Essentially, foods that have not been processed are whole foods- just the way nature intended them to be.
I have a saying "If God made it, eat it. If man made it, keep it to a minimum".
The more you practice "the whole food approach" your body will thank you for it day after day.
